Portofino is a modern dark roast Arabica blend designed for espresso. It is also excellent in milk-based drinks, offering a sweet yet bold flavour.

"Portofino was created with the idea of crafting a more modern dark blend. But what exactly does that mean? For us, a modern dark blend is one that offers cleaner flavours and plenty of sweetness and is made with seasonally selected beans.

To achieve this, we chose Nicaraguan beans from Finca Jesper, complemented by Brazilian beans from Fazenda Progresso. With years of experience working with these origins, we approached the roasting process slightly differently to meet our goals.

We start the roasting slowly at lower-than-usual temperatures, allowing the beans to warm up evenly. Then, we quickly ramp up the heat to reach the final roast temperature in the shortest time possible. This method preserves the beans' natural sweetness and origin characteristics while delivering the boldness of a darker roast."

Nicaragua

Shade grown Caturra, Catuai from the Rainforests of Nicaragua makes up one half of this blend. In a darker roast these beans adds sweetness and a much needed smoothness and creaminess. These fairly large and dense beans can tolerate a little bit more heat.

Brazil

Bold and Rich brazilian coffee from Fazenda Progresso makes up half of this blend. These brazilian beans lends themselves really well to a dark roast, the structure and balance stand up well and they offer some great dark chocolate notes.
