About us

About AmokkaAmokka® has been roasting coffee since 1998, built on a commitment to quality, transparency, and direct relationships with producers. What began as one of Denmark’s first micro-roasteries has evolved over the years, but our approach remains the same: sourcing and roasting coffee with care and respect for its origins.

Amokka® is shaped by a Nordic approach to coffee, focusing on clarity, balance, and the coffee’s natural character. We roast with precision to enhance each coffee’s complexity without overpowering it, favouring freshness and vibrancy while maintaining depth and balance. Our coffee is not defined by extremes; it’s about finding the point where everything comes together seamlessly.

Our team is made up of coffee specialists who are passionate about every stage of the process, from sourcing and roasting to brewing. Since 2019, our head roaster is Ante Bikic, one of the most skilled and respected coffee professionals in Denmark. Ante has an extensive career spanning roasting, barista work, coffee judging, and technician roles. In 2020, he won the Danish Coffee Roasting Championship. Ante approaches his craft with deep technical expertise, ensuring each coffee is roasted with precision and respect for its unique profile.

We believe that great coffee should benefit not just those who drink it, but also those who grow it. Through Impact Trade, we build direct, long-term partnerships with coffee producers, paying higher prices for quality beans and investing in community-led projects such as education, clean water access, and sustainability initiatives. Rather than relying on third-party certifications, we work closely with farmers to ensure fair compensation and full traceability from farm to cup.

The History of Amokka®

Founded in 1998 as one of Denmark’s first micro-roasteries, Amokka® helped shape Denmark’s speciality coffee scene long before it gained widespread recognition. What began as a small café and roastery in Copenhagen quickly grew into an influential brand, known for its focus on quality, transparency, and direct trade relationships at a time when these values were far from the industry standard.

In 2004, Amokka® became part of Scanomat, marking the start of a new chapter. While the company evolved, the focus on sourcing and roasting coffee with dedication to quality and traceability remained the same. Today, it remains an integral part of the company, continuing to source and roast coffee with the same dedication to quality and transparency that has defined it from the start.
