Ketiara

Amokka® is proud to work with Ketiara Cooperative, an exceptional group of 1,014 smallholder farmers in the Gayo Highlands of Central Aceh, Sumatra. More than 70% of the farmers are women, a rare structure in an otherwise male-dominated industry. The cooperative is led by Ms. Rahmah, a pioneering figure in the region, whose relentless efforts have improved both coffee quality and opportunities for young farmers.

Ketiara’s farmers grow certified organic coffee on the rich volcanic soils of Aceh, working without synthetic fertilizers or chemicals to preserve the region’s forests and water sources. They operate independently from traditional supply chains, staying informed about market conditions through mobile price updates, ensuring that they receive fair compensation well above commodity rates.

This collection features Mandheling coffee, one of Sumatra’s most distinctive coffee varieties. Known for its full body, rich texture, and deep, complex flavors, Mandheling coffee is traditionally processed using the wet-hulling method (locally known as Giling Basah). This unique approach gives it a signature profile with earthy notes of chocolate, spices, and dark fruit, making it a favourite among coffee lovers who appreciate bold, low-acidity coffees.

Beyond producing exceptional coffee, Ketiara is deeply committed to its farmers and community. Through workshops, organic farming initiatives, and university scholarships, the cooperative ensures long-term sustainability and better livelihoods for its members. As part of our Impact Trade initiative, Amokka® contributes an additional $0.2 per kg of coffee purchased to support these community projects, reinforcing our shared commitment to ethical and sustainable coffee production.
