Frederik Zeuthen of Café Nor is one of our longest standing collaboration partners. He is managing two farms in Nicaragua, Finca Jesper and Finca Susanne. The two neighboring farms are located in Laguna Verde, almost on the border between Jinotega and Matagalpa at an altitude of 1400m. The area has lots of rain and sun year-out and an abundance of animal life.
The coffee grown here is almost completely shade-grown and each farm has its own water resources which is also shared with the local community. The water from the wet milling processes is filtered and use by using gravity pumps the so-called 'honey-water' can be used to irrigate the coffee. The coffee pulp is composted and also used as a natural fertilizer.
In addition to growing their own coffee they also work with regional farmer collaborators who provides the bulk of their specialty coffee for their different profiles. It's always the aim to pay at the farm gate to the farmer in order to make sure that the main economic benefits are enjoyed by them and their families. All farmers have access to technical assistance in the different aspects of growing and processing in order to help them improve their quality of coffee and the sustainability of their use of land, water and forest resources. Additional access to financing is also provided, with contracts for getting loans with local micro-financing institutions or – in special cases – directly by NOR.

Finca Jesper
Finca Jesper is the name of both the farm and the Profile we use for most of our blends. It's made up of Caturra and Catuai and offers an iconic Central American flavour profile. The rich intensity, the deep chocolate notes and the fresh acidity are all properties that we about this coffee.

Finca Pernille
Finca Pernille is a premium profile from Café Nor. This coffee is from farmers
on the Dipilto y Jalapa mountain range that separates Nicaragua from Honduras. The Arabica beans are processed and dried before being shipped directly to our roastery.
Projects with Café Nor
Café Nor and Amokka® have together invested heavily over the years to develop the facilities at Finca Jesper.
The farm has, with the help of our Impact Trade initiative, invested in solar and- photovoltaic panels to both heat water (for drying coffee, amongst other things) and generate electricity. The aim at the farm is to fully combat the use of diesel generators and be 100% renewable.
